My name is Julian Luna and I am a junior studying Elementary Education at IU Bloomington. I am very passionate about providing equal opportunity education for students from all walks of life so that they may have the ability to pursue their interests. As a first generation college student from an immigrant family, I understand the difficulties that can be imposed while pursuing higher education. By participating in the Balfour Academy, I aspire to make a difference and let students know that "Si, se puede!"
The GALACTIC Global Infusion program at Balfour Academy was an opportunity that was introduced to me by Dr. Wright Fields. As I learned more about the program, I immediately knew I wanted to be involved. Global citizenship is a focus I want to instill in my future classrooms. I truly believe that through global citizenship, we can learn to work alongside one another and care for the well being of every human life, regardless of borders. My hope as a facilitator is to encourage Balfour students to consider the perspective and challenges of a person new to a country and understand their reasons to migrate. Through textiles, print making and painting, I hope to achieve this so that students may see the bigger picture.
